Here are some great ideas to help you get the most from delicious British produce when it’s in season.

Seasonal smoothies and juices

Preparation time: about 5 minutes

SPRING
Easter Treat Smoothie Combine 1 frozen banana (see bottom of page), thawed, 1 tablespoon honey (or rice syrup), 1 tablespoon almond butter, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, generous dollop of yoghurt and 300ml milk.

SUMMER
Combine a small handful each of blackcurrants, raspberries and blueberries, 1 skinned and sliced peach (loosen the skin by dipping the peach in boiling water and peel it off), a scoop of kiwi and pineapple sorbet and a splash of apple juice to make up the volume to a glassful.

AUTUMN
Combine the juice of 1⁄2 small fennel bulb, 2 pears, 1 apple and a bunch of fresh mint.

WINTER
Combine a spoonful of fruit compote, 1 frozen banana, thawed, a spoonful of hazelnut butter, a pinch of cinnamon, a generous splosh of milk and a dollop of yoghurt. Bananas freeze wonderfully well. Simply peel them, then pop them in a freezer bag and into the freezer. You need to allow them to thaw for 5 minutes before using, but once they’re ready you can add them to smoothies, turn them into ice cream or bake with them – whatever your favourite banana recipe demands.
